about the song

Stacey Kelleher’s upcoming third single of 2024, “backwards”, is a situationship anthem for anyone who’s ever wondered where they stand with a love interest. The song asks all of the questions that have ever run through a brokenhearted mind at 3am, like “what comes after all of this hurt?” and “tell me what comes after / now that we’re going backwards?” Co-written by Kelleher, Taylor Macres, and BMG’s Rachel Boerner, the track leans on a dark electric guitar foundation and is supported with subtle piano, Kacey Musgraves-esque acoustic guitar, and blooms with hints of pedal steel. Produced, mixed, and mastered by Macres, this sound is a perfect representation of Kelleher’s blend of several genres of music, reminiscent of country, pop, singer-songwriter, and indie.
